Didactic Program in Dietetics

Overview

The Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) at UNC Greensboro consists of the coursework and knowledge requirements needed to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

Students are issued a DPD verification statement after successfully completing the DPD. The verification statement is required by ACEND as proof of program completion. The DPD program prepares students for the next steps in their studies: completion of a graduate degree, and a supervised practice program such as UNCG’s Dietetic Internship (DI) program.

Once students have earned a graduate degree and completed their DPD and DI programs, they are eligible to take the national registration exam for RDNs, offered by the Commission on Dietetic Registrations (CDR).

In most states, graduates also must obtain licensure or certification to practice. See here for more information about state licensure requirements.

    • Students do not need to meet graduation requirements for a 2nd degree to complete the DPD program and receive a verification statement.

Master’s Degree

Admission for master’s or doctoral degrees is through the UNCG Graduate School. Contact the DPD Director to discuss a plan of study.

  • Students may apply to the M.S. program and complete DPD course requirements while earning their master’s degree.
  • On receiving their DPD verification statement, students are eligible to transition to the DI Program while continuing their M.S.

Financial Aid & Scholarships

There are numerous types of financial assistance available on campus:

Effective January 1, 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) will require a minimum of a master’s degree to be eligible to take the credentialing exam to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN). In order to be approved for registration examination eligibility with a bachelor’s degree, an individual must meet all eligibility requirements and be submitted into CDR’s Registration Eligibility Processing System (REPS) before 12:00 midnight Central Time, December 31, 2023. In addition, CDR requires that individuals complete coursework and supervised practice in program(s) accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Graduates who successfully complete the ACEND-accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics at UNCG are eligible to apply to an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program.
